FAQ: Ask the Expert!

What are the main functions of animeo IB+ TouchBuco?

Just some of the key functions are: sunlight tracking, management and protection, critical security and safety functions and shading alignment which helps ensure a good façade aesthetic can be achieved.

Why is automating and connecting shading important?

Solar shading plays an important role in both ensuring occupant comfort and contributing to a building’s energy performance. Through research, we know that, typically, manual shading is not used in the best way, so it loses its effectiveness in achieving these important objectives for building designers and owners.

When you automate the shading devices, whether blinds or shutters; and manage them with intelligent building controls, the shading is programmed according to many factors of the building and its location and also reacts to environmental conditions, for example, eliminating glare and optimizing solar gain in winter.

An automated blind management solution can significantly improve well-being and productivity and also reduce heating and air conditioning bills by up to 70%.

What is BACnet, and what are the benefits of when it comes to automated shading?

BACnet is a building automation networking protocol created by ASHRAE. It is becoming the most common solution to manage all of a building’s services / or equipment, including lighting, shading, HVAC, and security, to share information and work effectively together.

So, having all of a building’s smart functions on one single, intuitive platform offers a simple and integrated solution to facilities management.

What kind of shading is this solution suitable for?

All kinds of shading, from external screens through to interior blinds - it’s a highly flexible solution. The animeo IB+ TouchBuco is  compatible with Somfy WT motors, which offer silent motorisation for interior blinds.

What about the occupants of the building, how much control does this solution give them?

The solution gives four control methods to meet the often varied demands of the system users. For example, it is possible for the facilities manager to switch from fully automatic to complete autonomy, as well as define access levels and see how the solution is being used.

What about installation time – will this have a big impact on my project?

Installation is time efficient and it’s good to know that no extra hardware is required for the BACnet compatibility.

And once the system is installed and in use, is it easy for the facilities team to manage and maintain?

The great thing is that the intuitive touch screen allows you to monitor and control the status of the installation. The facilities team can define what levels of access they need and also make adjustments to the building zones with just a few simple clicks.

The solution also comes with proactive assistance. Facilities teams can request and receive a remote diagnostic report, where our Somfy Team will diagnose the status and running history of the product and identify the nature of the fault in order to better prepare any maintenance intervention.
